Cotonou, Lodging Hotel Rating qualifications and characteristics

According to their facilities and services, establishments are categorized using a five-star rating system.

Five-star Hotels *****

This category includes international-class hotels which are located in the city center and offer facilities, services, and amenities at the highest level of luxury. They cater to clients demanding the utmost in comfort and are managed by extremely qualified and competent personnel.

Four-star Hotels ****

This category includes hotels located in or near the city center and offer facilities, services, and amenities at a very high level of luxury. They are tastefully decorated and staffed by highly-qualified personnel. In addition, they cater to clients demanding a high level of comfort and are managed by well-reputed organizations.

Three-star Hotels ***

These establishments offer very comfortable facilities; specifically, they can be distinguished from one- or two-star hotels by the following qualities :

- pleasant ambiance and tasteful decor

- Highly qualified, readily available personnel

Two-star Hotels **

This category includes hotels with the same general characteristics as the one-star category. They can be distinguished by a slightly higher level of comfort and technical competence among the personnel.

One-star Hotels *

These hotels offer average comfort and are made up of at least seven (7) rooms. They cater to a mainstream clientele which is not particularly demanding..
