HOTEL

A recognized commercial lodging establishment which offers rooms or furnished apartments for rent by the day, week, or month, but which, without exception, does not serve as a permanent residence. Hotels often include restaurant service and can operate either year-round or seasonally

MOTEL

A recognized commercial lodging establishment located near a major roadway which rents rooms or furnished apartments to a clientele generally composed of passing motorists. A motel is made up of individual lodging units grouped into pavilions and has a garage or other parking area available to its clients. Motels generally operate year-round.

AUBERGE

A commercial establishment which offers primarily restaurant services and more modest lodging. Auberges are usually located outside the urban center, in more rural areas, and generally concentrate more on their restaurant services than lodging.

RELAIS

A lodging establishment generally located outside city limits and characterized by proximity to a park or garden; a relais often provides camping facilities. A relais necessarily includes a restaurant with a regional menu and can operate year-round or seasonally.

VILLAGE DE VACANCES

A commercial or non-commercial establishment which offers multiple vacation services to its clients for an all-inclusive fee. These services may include use of recreational and athletic equipment, sports facilities, and organization of other activities and entertainment.

PENSION DE FAMILLE

An establishment which lodges its guests in a family-style environment (communal meals, activities, excursions, etc.)
